Why Does Unlimited Data Say Something Different?
You may have noticed that after purchasing an "unlimited" data plan, your device settings or confirmation email shows a specific data amount — for example, 50 GB or 100 GB. This can be confusing, but there is a good reason for it.
What Is a Fair Usage Policy (FUP)?
Most unlimited mobile data plans in the industry operate under a Fair Usage Policy. This means you receive a generous high-speed data allowance (often 30 GB to 100 GB or more, depending on the plan and destination). Once you reach that threshold, your connection may be slowed to a reduced speed rather than being cut off entirely.
The FUP exists to ensure a fair experience for all users on the network. Without it, a small number of extremely heavy users could degrade network performance for everyone.
Why Does My Device Show a Data Cap?
When we provision your eSIM, the network must set a technical data limit in the plan profile. Your device reads this value and displays it in your cellular settings. This is the high-speed data portion of your unlimited plan. It does not mean your data will stop — it means speeds may be reduced after that point.
Is It Really Unlimited?
Yes, in the practical sense for the vast majority of travellers. The high-speed allowance on our unlimited plans is generous enough to cover typical travel usage including navigation, social media, video calls, and streaming. After the FUP threshold, you still have data access at reduced speeds for the remainder of your plan validity.
Tips for Getting the Most From Your Plan
- Use Wi-Fi when available for large downloads and HD streaming.
- Download content (maps, playlists, shows) before you leave your hotel.
- Lower streaming quality on mobile to conserve high-speed data.
- Check your usage periodically so you know where you stand.
